National Instruments has unveiled the latest version of LabVIEW, its graphical system design platform.

LabVIEW 8.6 includes an array of new tools to aid control, test and embedded system development, said the US company.

The new version is particularly geared up to help engineers and scientists in three key areas – the growing potential of multicore processors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and wireless communications.

According to NI, engineers working with such technologies currently have to use a variety of tools that are not designed for parallel processing.

It said LabVIEW 8.6 offers a single platform to boost test and control system throughput with multicore processing, cut development time of FPGA-based advanced control and embedded prototyping applications and make it easier to create distributed measurement systems for remote data acquisition.

The new version features more than 1,200 advanced analysis functions, set up to allow faster maths and signal processing on multicore systems for control and test.
